17th Annual Choristers Guild Festival

Paul, He Was a Servant

Saturday, March 3, 2007

We discovered and celebrated the life of teachings of Paul through workshops and song. The beautiful stained glass windows of Saint Paul's sanctuary inspired our theme.

Sing Thankful Songs by Sandra T. Gay, Choristers Guild CGA828
This song reminds one of Paul's letters to the young churches. Those letters began with thanksgiving and include many "how-to's" of living out the Christian faith.
Everywhere I Go by Natalie Sheeth, Choristers Guild CGA171
Our closing song, this classic is a statement of our faith. Like Paul we'll stand courageously counting on God's presence as we serve!
Now Paul, He Was a Servant by David Brazzeal, Choristers Guild CGA782
This song is based on 2 Corinthians 11:23-27; 12:9-10 and introduces us to the sufferings of Paul. The syncopated rhythm will make this a fun song to sing! The life lesson is in the words of the refrain, "But through it all he learned: When I am weak, my God is strong, even when times get tough, protecting, guiding all along. His grace is more than enough."
Paul, Preacher of the Word by Bert Polman, Songs for Life, CRC Publications, Grand Rapids, MI
Our processional hymn, the hymn tune is St. Catherine ("Faith of our Fathers"). While the four verses tell Paul's story, the refrain becomes our prayer to share the Gospel like Paul.
I Will Praise You, O Lord by Mark Patterson, Choristers Guild CGA867
The choir's opening anthem expresses the Apostle Paul's purpose, as well as our own, as God's creation. This unison anthem is cheerful, fairly repetitive, and includes a simple descant ostinati.
